NEWRY — Newry Selectman Gary Wight is on the candidate fence.
“Part of me wants to, but part of me says, ‘no.'” He has been on the Newry select board for 15 years; this will be his sixth term … if he runs.
After a longtime career at Grover Gun Drilling in Oxford, he has been driving a bus for SADD-44. He’s busy with a regular route every day and additional runs to sports events, about 35-40 hours a week for the past year.
He was fire chief before his longtime gig as Select Board Chair. He is still on the fire department and is president and trail master of Windy Valley Snowmobile Club. “It’s not like I don’t have things to do, ” says Wight.
In the meantime, SADD-44 Athletic Coordinator Gail Wight, Gary’s wife, appreciates having him drive the bus to games.
He calls her with halftime reports.
