AUBURN — An Edgecomb man is scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges that he killed a Virginia man in Turner and later disposed of the body in a trash barrel.
Luke Krott, 26, faces a charge of knowing and intentional murder in the death of 34-year-old William “Nate” Robinson of Austinville, Virginia.
Krott’s arraignment in Androscoggin County Superior Court comes two months after his extradition from San Diego, where he was arrested on a sailboat.
Robinson’s body was found stuffed in a trash barrel at the Schmid Preserve on Old County Road in Edgecomb on Dec. 3, 2024, investigators said. Ice fishermen later found Robinson’s wallet on a frozen pond.
Investigators believe the killing of Robinson took place in Turner shortly before the body was discovered.
On Dec. 12, Maine State Police executed a search warrant at 57 Conant Road, the site of an industrial building described in real estate listings as a medical marijuana cultivation facility.
There, investigators said they found evidence connecting Krott to the murder. But police have not described the relationship between Krott and Robinson and a motive for the killing remained unclear.
When police first started investigating the case, Krott was nowhere to be found. He had been staying with his parents in Edgecomb, police said, but it wasn’t until January that the suspect was tracked to San Diego.
Krott was arrested on a charge of being a fugitive from justice after he was tracked to a sailboat in a San Diego marina and captured by the U.S. Marshals Service and FBI.
He was returned to Maine soon after and was officially charged with murder at a brief court hearing. He has since remained at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
Krott will appear in Androscoggin County Superior Court at 9 a.m. on Friday to answer the charge of knowing and intentional murder in the death of Robinson.
