Rhode Island-based retail discount chain Ocean State Job Lot is in the process of purchasing the Auburn Big Lots store at 730 Center St., according to a company news release.

Big Lots is liquidating its inventory and stores as part of its bankruptcy process.

Ocean State Job Lot is buying 15 Big Lots stores, while other discount chains are gobbling up most of the more than 1,300 stores nationwide.

Job Lot officials said they will hire up to 70 positions in each store, including store leadership, full-time, part-time and seasonal associates.

The company has 159 stores in New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
