LIVERMORE — The Livermore Community Center Association (LCCA) hosted a breakfast and a bake sale to benefit the Livermore Fire Department. The menu included scrambled eggs, sausage patties, bacon, home fries and pancakes, but if you were still hungry after that, an array of homemade pies, bread, whoopie pies, cookies and fudge were available to purchase.

The bake sale brought in $526, the breakfast $845 and the calendar sales are at $440, but the group is still selling the calendars until the end of April. Pat Litalien, her daughters Jill Litalien, and Carrie Judd, along with granddaughter Chloe Judd were the movers, shakers and bakers for the event. Other baked goods and desserts were donated for the sale.

The LCCA in Livermore, Maine is a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the two room schoolhouse on Church Street. About 10 years ago, the town was debating what to do with the building. As a school, it was active from 1915 to 1973 and the 100 year old building was in good shape overall, but not handicap accessible. There’s a saying that “it takes a village” and in this case it did.

Luckily, this village stepped up to the plate and added considerable value to the building. The association pounded the pavement, raising funds and gathering donations, enough to install a handicap ramp, refinish the floor, repaint and repair the walls, and make one of the bathrooms handicap accessible. The roof has been shingled, A new gas furnace and heat pumps were installed.

“We wanted to keep the building for the people of Livermore,” said Tim Cox. “They can rent the hall for nearly any event, but at a reasonable price. There’s no smoking or alcohol allowed in the hall, but the rental price is reasonable.”
