The Casco Bay Mariners 14U girls hockey team played its third game Friday at USA Hockey’s Tier II national tournament, and for the second time, Reese Weaver scored the winning goal.
Weaver’s goal late in the second period gave the Mariners the lead for good in a 2-1 victory over Honeybaked (Michigan) to end pool play in Coral Springs, Florida.
Lilly Kerluke put Casco Bay ahead in the opening period, with Kennady Conley recording an assist.
Honeybaked tied it midway through the second period.
Alana Wheeler only had to make 11 saves for the Mariners, who will play a quarterfinal at 10:15 a.m. Saturday against the Valley Jr. Warriors (Mass.). The semifinals are Saturday evening.
Boys 14U Tier II
Casco Bay Mariners 6, Arapahow Warriors (Colorado) 2: Keon Fairbanks scored four times for the Mariners in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Isaiah Waterman and Cameron Bourque each added a goal, Jackson Wing and Keegan Schmoll had two assists apiece, and Grady Argereow stopped 16 shots for the Mariners.
The Mariners finished pool play with a 2-1 record and will play in the quarterfinals Saturday morning.
Boys 16U Tier II
Spokane Jr. Chiefs (Wash.) 6, Maine Gladiators 5: Grayden Westbrook scored twice and added two assists in the Chiefs’ win over the Gladiators in Wayne, New Jersey.
Cam Plourde and Landan Anctil each had a goal and an assist for the Gladiators, who were 0-3 in pool play and didn’t qualify for the quarterfinals. Garrett Wooster, Connor St. George and Connor Richard also scored.
18U Boys
Maine Gladiators 3, Idaho Jr. Steelheads 2: Breck Langevin scored with 1:13 remaining to lift the Gladiators to a 3-2 win and a 3-0 record in pool play in Utica, New York.
The Gladiators will play a semifinal game on Saturday afternoon against the Oregon Selects at 3:15 p.m.
Hayden Brown and Andrew Theriault built a 2-0 lead for Maine before Brett Holman scored for Idaho midway through the second period. Dylan Howard scored early in the third period to tie the game 2-2.
Alex Gadbois, Nikolas Smagacz and Alex Alonso each had an assist in the win.
Tristan Bourassa made 25 saves in the win and Brady Mingura had 33 saves in the loss
