A Massachusetts man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly fleeing from police investigating reports of shots fired in Paris.

The incident began just after 11:30 p.m. when the Oxford County Regional Communications Center received a report that several shots were fired on Park Street. As a state police trooper arrived to assist with the call, a blue SUV was seen leaving the area and officers tried to stop it in West Paris, Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said.

Moss said the driver refused to pull over, starting a high-speed pursuit that involved agencies from Oxford and Androscoggin counties.

A spike mat was used to end the pursuit in Mechanic Falls, where the SUV crashed into a field.

The four people in the car were taken to Central Maine Medical Center, including one passenger who was seriously injured, Moss said. Police found two guns in the car.

The driver, a 24-year-old man from Lawrence, Massachusetts, was arrested and charged with eluding an officer, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon (vehicle), driving to endanger and criminal speeding.

Moss said no injuries were reported in connection with the shots fired in Paris, and the investigation is ongoing.
