
A car lies Friday afternoon on Center Street in Auburn after a collision with another vehicle. Police said 78-year-old Amelita Sales of Lewiston was pulling out of the Auburn Plaza at 730 Center St. about 2 p.m. when she took a wide turn and pulled in front of a car being driven south on Center Street. The second car, a Nissan Altima driven by 24-year-old Roberta Merrill of Lewiston, struck Sales’ Toyota Camry, flipped and landed on its roof, police said. Auburn Police Department
AUBURN — A section of Center Street was shut down Friday after a collision left one car overturned in the roadway.
Police said 78-year-old Amelita Sales of Lewiston was pulling out of the Auburn Plaza at 730 Center St. about 2 p.m. when she took a wide turn and pulled in front of a car being driven south on Center Street.
The second car, a Nissan Altima driven by 24-year-old Roberta Merrill of Lewiston, struck Sales’ Toyota Camry, flipped and landed on its roof, police said.
While police, fire and rescue crews responded, a section of Center Street between Mount Auburn Avenue and Joline Drive was closed to traffic. It was reopened a short time later.
Both drivers were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with minor injuries, police said.
No charges are expected.
