OXFORD HILLS — On January 5, the Social Security Fairness Act, authored by Senator Susan Collins and Senator Sherrod Brown, was signed into law. The SSFA will restore Social Security benefits for millions of teachers, school cafeteria workers, custodians and other school employees, law enforcement officers, fire fighters, and other public servants by repealing two provisions of current law – the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) – that unfairly reduce the Social Security benefits that public employees or their spouses have earned. The bipartisan bill overwhelmingly passed both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate by votes of 327-75 and 76-20, respectively.

The local seminar will be held on Thursday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Forum. More details for this free event will be online at: https://www.oxfordhillsmaine.com/eventcalendar or call 207-743-2281 or John Williams, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce at john@oxfordhillsmaine.com to register.
