BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Community Band will play a Spring Concert Sunday, May 18, at 4 p.m. at Gould Academy Bingham Auditorium. Under the direction of Ed Ryan, the band practices with adults and Gould students weekly.
Concert selections include selections of Symphony No. 9 by Antonin Dvorak, Somewhere in Time by John Barry, Jesus Christ Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Music from Wicked by Stephen Schwartz, Tijuana Brass in Concert arranged by Ted Ricketts, Pirates of the Caribbean by Klaus Badelt, Gospel John composed by Jeff Steinberg and arranged by Andy Clark, Mission: Impossible Theme by Lalo Schifrin and arranged by Paul Lavender, and America the Beautiful by Claude Smith.
Donations are accepted at the door to defray cost of music. Refreshments will be served following the concert.
Many of the songs are paid for through the Buy-A-Song program. If there is a song or an arrangement you would like to hear, contact any band member and perhaps the music committee can find a suitable arrangement.
The band will play for Memorial Day parades. The band has a summer concert August 17 at the Bethel Common. The community band has been organized for 28 years and continues to provide music for the communities.
The community band rehearses on Monday nights at 6:45 p.m. at the Gould Academy band room starting June 16 for summer music. New members are always welcome. Young people are especially encouraged to join for the summer as music doesn’t end when school lets out. Music is something to enjoy throughout a lifetime.
