PARIS — The Seneca Club, Friends’ Group of the Paris Public Library, is hosting former Maine State Trooper Percy Turner on Sunday, May 18, at the Deering Memorial Community Center at 2 p.m. Mr. Turner will be presenting his analysis of the evidence, presented and not presented, at the infamous 1930s Littlefield Murder trials.

In October 1937, the country became captivated by the bizarre circumstances surrounding the double homicide of Paris citizens Dr. James Littlefield and his wife, Lydia. In the end, two separate trials convicted two different men as being the sole killer of the doctor. One man, former Sheriff deputy Francis Carroll, had his conviction overturned under suspicion that the prosecution had manipulated evidence. Paul Dwyer, who had originally confessed to the killings but later recanted, had his sentence commuted in 1959 and was set free. Nobody was ever tried for the murder of Mrs. Littlefield.

The program is free (donations will be gratefully accepted) and open to all in the community.
