The 11th annual Western Mountain Photography exhibit will be on display at The Rangeley Friends of the Arts Lakeside Contemporary Art Gallery, 2493 Main St. The exhibit will continue through Wednesday, Oct. 8. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. — 2 p.m.

On Friday, Oct. 11, the Rangeley Friends of the Arts will host an artist reception celebrating the works of Kelly Desrosiers, titled, “The Textured World”, also at the Lakeside Contemporary Art Gallery. The reception will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Meet the artist, enjoy complimentary refreshments and a cash beer and wine bar. The exhibit will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 10. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 2p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Adult Respite Care

The Adult Respite Care Program, called HARC (HELP ADULT RESPITE CARE), is a service that provides needed relief for caregivers of cognitively challenged seniors. The program has activities designed specifically to enrich the participants’ daily lives based on their capabilities, experience, interests and personality. This service is open Wednesdays 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., and is located at the lower level of Rangeley Family Medicine, 42 Dallas Hill Rd., and includes lunch and a snack. This program is sponsored by HELP (Helping Elders Live in Place), a program of Rangeley Health and Wellness. For more information, contact Kathy Hewins at (207)864-4397 option 6.

Bingo

Bingo is held the third Tuesday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m. in the lunchroom at Townhouse Apartments, 14 School St., Rangeley. Everyone is welcome. Free games, chocolate milk, goodies and prizes. Call Mary at (207)460-4146 if you have any questions.

Comedy

The Rangeley Friends of the Arts (RFA) will host comedian Brian Glowacki for one show only Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m., at the RFA Lakeside Theater, 2493 Main St.  General Admission tickets are available only at bglowcomedy.com.  Enjoy cash bar (beer/wine) and concessions before and during the show. Farmers Markets

Farmers markets are still open. In Rangeley, visit the South Shore Drive Farmers Market on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market is held in the lot at the corner of Route 17 and South Shore Drive. The Downtown Farmers Market is held in the Depot Street parking lot on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Phillips Farmers Market is held at the Phillips Area Community Center on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Food

Rangeley Food Bank welcomes all to stop by every Tuesday 10 a.m. – 12 noon at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2614 Main St. We’ve got lots of good food to fill you up.

Library

The Rangeley Public Library, 7 Lake St., is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; and Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Stephanie Ward from Franklin County Adult Education will be available for drop-in tech help every Friday 11 a.m. — 1 p.m.

Mahjong

Mahjong on Wednesday afternoons at 1 p.m., at the Townhouse Apartments lunch room, across from the Fire Station. $2 donation. Call Jackie @ 207-557-2503 for questions.

Mahjong at the Barn will held at the Rangeley Congregational Church Barn, 2 High Street, 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. This gathering is for beginners and experienced players as well. It is the perfect opportunity to learn the game. Email Ann Franklin at [email protected].

Meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings are held on Tuesdays, 7-8 p.m. (Open Discussion), and Saturdays, 7-8 p.m. (Closed Discussion), at the Rangeley Free Baptist Church, 3 Lake St, Rangeley. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Open Big Book meeting is held Fridays, 7 – 8 p.m. at the Madrid Historical Society Schoolhouse on Schoolhouse Road in Madrid Township.

Music (and dinner)

Hike in to the Maine Huts and Trails Flagstaff Lake Hut Saturday, Oct. 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for an evening of live music and lumber camp-style comfort food. The Sandy River Ramblers will be playing live bluegrass music on the lawn, and guests will eat hearty fare such as hot dogs, beans, salad, biscuits and gingerbread. Thrift Shoppe

The Church of the Good Shepherd Thrift Shoppe, 2614 Main Street, is open Friday and Saturday mornings 9 a.m. to noon. It is a place that is shopped by local folks, winter and summer folks, and the Rangeley Friends of the Arts searching for costumes and set decorations. The bargains are amazing and the range of goods diverse. Proceeds from our Shoppe support the operating costs of Good Shepherd and contributes to local, national and international agencies that provide for the poor and needy of the world. The Thrift Shoppe accepts donations of gently worn clothing, jewelry, accessories and household items. (No televisions, large electronics or furniture, please. See full list of items that can not be accepted in the Undercroft) Donations may be dropped off at the Undercroft anytime during the day or evening.
