Austin Verrill scored off a corner kick assist from Nolan Litchfield midway through the first half, and fifth-seeded Buckfield made the goal stand up for a 1-0 win over fourth-seeded Bangor Christian in a Class D South boys soccer quarterfinal Wednesday in Bangor.
Neil Haylock earned the shutout with three saves. Bangor Christian’s Blaze Morris stopped six shots.
Buckfield moves on to play top-seeded Monmouth Academy on Saturday.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 8, MACHIAS 0: Bryce Fletcher, Rory Foyt and Zane Foyt scored two goals each as the top-seeded Mustangs (13-1-1) earned a mercy-rule win over the No. 8 Bulldogs (1-14) in a Class D South quarterfinal at Monmouth.
Zane Foyt also had two assists, while Fletcher and Rory Foyt each had one. Vasili Bendo and Noah Schultz were the other goal scorers.
Kaiyden Carter made 19 saves for Machias.
