LEWISTON — The Edward Little football team wanted to finish the 2025 season strong. The Red Eddies did just that by beating their biggest rival.

Edward Little’s 35-0 victory in a Class A finale Saturday was its first over Lewiston since 2018.

“To get a win in general for this team is really important,” Edward Little coach Brian Jahna said. “They’ve been putting things together all year, getting better every week, and it doesn’t always show on the scoreboard. We see it at practice. So to finally come out and come on the right side of it, it feels pretty good.”

Edward Little finishes its first season under Jahna at 2-7, bookending the year with victories. Lewiston (0-9) was shut out for the third straight week.

Junior quarterback Evan Madigan (10 carries, 52 yards) led the charge for the visitors with three rushing touchdowns, plus a sack and a pass deflection on defense.

Senior Dawson Breton (six carries, 87 yards) scored on a 12-yard run late in the second quarter, giving EL a 14-0 lead at halftime. Tanner Melanson (11 carries, 69 yards), a junior, added a 19-yard score on the first play of the fourth quarter that made it 28-0.

The Red Eddies struggled to gain much forward progress in the opening quarter, but they were aided by excellent field position. Six of Edward Little’s nine drives started in Lewiston territory.

Madigan’s first score was a 6-yard keeper midway through the second quarter. His 3-yard run capped a 38-yard drive to open the second half, and a 1-yard TD with 5:49 to go sent the game to running time.

“He’s amazing,” Jahna said of Madigan. “He knows our offense inside-out. Sometimes he’ll give suggestions to me, like if he has something that he wants to run. He’s a quiet leader … the hardest worker I’ve ever coached.”

Jahna said playing assignment football allowed the Edward Little defense to have success against the Lewiston offense. The Blue Devils converted just four first downs and crossed midfield twice, on a 46-yard second-quarter run by senior Christian Rosario (nine carries, 54 yards) and a 9-yard reverse by senior Josue Luis (three catches, 40 yards) on the final play of the game.

Lewiston quarterback Tegan Dugal finished 6 of 12 passing for 52 yards with an interception.

“It’s not easy to take a whooping like this week in and week out, but it does build character, and it does allow them to know that they’re going to be able to play next year,” Lewiston coach Jason Versey said. “We have 10 returning players next year that were really young, and now they’re seasoned. So that’s something that we can definitely look forward to.”
