LEWISTON — Two of three teens accused of conspiring to commit murder were indicted by an Androscoggin County grand jury Monday, according to court documents.

Shamsi Abdinoor, 19, and Mahad Abdikadir, 18, were each indicted on a count of conspiracy to commit murder and a count of tampering with a witness or informant.

It is not clear if the third person charged with instigating the conspiracy, a 17-year-old whose identity is being withheld due to his status as a minor, has been indicted.

Lewiston police were alerted in late August by the District Attorney’s Office that a suspicious call was monitored at the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, according to an affidavit.

The youngest of the three teens, an inmate at the facility, allegedly pressured Abdinoor, his pregnant girlfriend, and Abdikadir over the phone to threaten a local father and son to admit to an Aug. 12 shooting on Blake Street

If the two refused to admit to the shooting, “They should be whacked,” the juvenile allegedly said, specifying the father and son be beaten and shot, according to the affidavit.

Abdinoor told police the phone calls were not serious, that no violence was actually planned. However, when police followed up with the alleged targets, the father said both Abdinoor and Abdikadir pressured him to confess to the shooting, threatening violence if he did not, the affidavit stated.

The two older teens were arrested at 158 Blake St. on Aug. 28.

Abdinoor was released from Androscoggin County Jail the same day on $5,000 bail. Abdikadir is still being held at the jail.
