Watch ‘Come See Me in the Good Light’ in Bethel

BETHEL — On Friday, Bethel Area Arts & Music will be at The Gem to present a screening of “Come See Me in the Good Light,” introduced by poet laureate and area resident Richard Blanco.

Released last January, the film follows two poets, Colorado Poet Laureate Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley, as they go on an unexpectedly funny and poignant journey through love, life and mortality as Gibson faces an incurable cancer diagnosis.

The prolific Gibson, originally from Calais, Maine, relocated to Boulder, Colorado, in 1999. She died of ovarian cancer in July of this year.

Blanco, who will introduce the film, was selected by President Barack Obama as the fifth Presidential Inaugural Poet in U.S. history. He was also the youngest and the first Latinx, immigrant and gay person to serve in that role. Currently, he serves as education ambassador for The Academy of American Poets and is an associate professor at Florida International University. In April 2022, Blanco was appointed the first-ever poet laureate of Miami-Dade County.
