Since opening the season with a tie against Biddeford, Cheverus has been slowly gaining the confidence of voters in the Varsity Maine field hockey poll. The Stags finally won over each voter by winning the Class A championship last week. They are the top team for the sixth straight poll and the unanimous No. 1 for the first time this season.

Skowhegan, which was less than two minutes from taking Cheverus to overtime in the Class A final, maintains its No. 2 ranking in the fall’s final poll.

Belfast, which edged Freeport to repeat as the Class B champion, moves up from fourth in the previous poll to third, while Freeport, the B South champ, jumps from eighth to fifth. Foxcroft joins the rankings at No. 8 after earning the Class C title.
