Freshman Bryn Gilmore drove the lane and scored the winning basket with eight seconds remaining to lift Gray-New Gloucester to a 48-47 victory over Mt. Ararat in a battle of unbeaten girls basketball teams Tuesday in Gray.
Gilmore also hit a 3-pointer at the second-quarter buzzer to give Gray-New Gloucester (9-0) a 26-23 halftime lead. She finished with 22 points. Ella Kenney added 11 for the Patriots, who are ranked seventh in the Varsity Maine poll.
Jenna Jensen led Mt. Ararat, which is No. 2 in the Varsity Maine poll, with 13 points, and Kayleigh Wagg scored 10.
OAK HILL 51, WAYNFLETE 31: The Raiders (6-2) raced to a 33-11 halftime lead on their way to a win over the Flyers (2-5) in Wales.
Jillian Smith paced Oak Hill with 12 points. MacKenzee Wordwell finished with 10 and Skylar Vachon scored nine.
Paloma Cardona-Schair led Waynflete with 10 points, followed by Rachel Yordon with three 3-pointers.
SACOPEE VALLEY 27, LISBON 23: The Hawks (3-6) pulled away in the second half to down the Greyhounds (2-6) in Lisbon.
Sacopee Valley trailed 9-7 at halftime, then scored 10 points in each of the next two quarters. Charlotte Cyr led the way with 11 points, while Mirielle Bridges scored all seven of her points and Divinity Smith all five of her points in the second half.
Aubriana Bright led Lisbon with seven points. Liz Ferero and Hannah Perron scored six apiece.
EDWARD LITTLE 80, MESSALONSKEE 52: Elizabeth Galway led the Red Eddies (9-1) with 17 points in a win over the Eagles (1-8) in Auburn.
Charlotte Ranger finished with 15 points and Xavi Hall scored 11.
Addie Hafford paced Messalonskee with 17 points, while Leah Adams had 14 and Rubee Stubbert ended up with 10.
DIRIGO 79, TELSTAR 18: Big games by Emma Witas and Abby Luczynski paced the Cougars (5-3) to a victory over the Rebels (1-7) in Dixfield.
Witas poured in 32 points and Luczynski finished with 24.
Seven Telstar players scored, led by Taejyah Lego’s five points.
MT. ABRAM 38, BUCKFIELD 30: The Roadrunners (7-2) outscored the Bucks (7-2) by a 15-4 margin in the fourth quarter to earn a win in Salem.
Stella Peterson led a balanced Mt. Abram attack with 11 points. Autumn Emery and Jenna Osgood each added eight.
Buckfield’s Chloee Bennett made five 3-pointers for 15 points.
LEAVITT 67, MT. BLUE 45: Gabby Smith’s 23 points propelled the Hornets (3-5) past the Cougars (0-8) in Farmington.
Nine of Smith’s points were free throws. Jordyn Boulay hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for Leavitt, while Elizabeth Kowalski added 12 points.
Mt. Blue was led by 14 points from Reese Nye and 10 from Gracelyn Noles.
WINTHROP 60, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 50: Evelyn Mortimer hit three 3-pointers and led the Ramblers (6-2) with 19 points in a win over the Seagulls (6-3) in Winthrop.
Kylee Mansir dropped in 12 points and Bella Baehr (three 3s) finished with 11.
Corinne Androkitis paced Old Orchard Beach with 15 points. Maegan Dow had 11.
TUESDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL
BRUNSWICK 67, OXFORD HILLS 40: Brendan Shaw scored all of his 16 points in the first half, starting the Dragons (7-2) on their way to a win over the Vikings (2-7) in Brunswick.
Logan Gray and Rylan Ley each tallied 14 points for Brunswick, which led 20-7 after one quarter and 44-16 at halftime.
Cam Pulkkinen paced Oxford Hills with 13 points.
DIRIGO 70, TELSTAR 56: Brady Philbrick hit six 3-pointers, including four in the first quarter, and scored 22 points to lead the Cougars (5-3) past the Rebels (2-6) in Bethel.
Philbrick’s 12 first-quarter points helped Dirigo take a 26-17 lead.
Liam Malchisky added 17 points and Owen Smith scored 15.
Three Telstar players scored in double figures. Connor Deprey led the way with 21 points, Alex Doughty scored 16 and Jonathan Marshall finished with 10.
LEWISTON 61, GREELY 40: Grayson Bernard paced the Blue Devils (5-3) with 22 points in a win over the Rangers (2-7) in Lewiston.
Kewito Castigo chipped in 12 points for Lewiston, which had nine players score.
Rocky Axelsen’s 15 points led Greely. Jackson Coull added 13 points.
OAK HILL 73, WAYNFLETE 65: Braden New scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half to lead the Raiders (4-4) past the Flyers (5-2) in Wales.
Isaac Galvez added 14 points, while Braden Dubuc had 13, PJ Smith 12 and Aiden Fortin 10 for Oak Hill, which trailed 33-30 at halftime.
JJ Carlo had 21 points, Jed Alsup added 20 and Mercy Nkulu finished with 13 for Waynflete.
LEAVITT 54, MT. BLUE 40: The Hornets (6-3) held the Cougars (5-3) to two points in the first quarter on their way to a win in Turner.
Colin Schlobohm had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Leavitt. Jacob Gibbs also scored 14 and added seven rebounds and six assists. Brody Poland contributed 11 points for the Hornets, who led 14-2 after one quarter.
Oliver Cormier scored 17 points for Mt. Blue.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 52, WINTHROP 37: Trot Moody scored 23 points, Caleb Dupee made four 3-pointers, and the Seagulls (3-6) pulled away in the second half against the Ramblers (3-6) in Old Orchard Beach.
Dupee finished with 14 points for the Seagulls, who outscored Winthrop 29-15 in the second half after leading by one at halftime.
Graham Huri paced Winthrop with 15 points.
MARANACOOK 76, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 54: The Black Bears (7-3) jumped out to a 14-point lead after the first quarter and beat the Falcons (2-5) in Rumford.
Grady Hreben scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half for Maranacook. Gage Mattson added 14 and Alex Labelle chipped in 10.
Dylan Theriault hit six 3-pointers and netted 22 points for Mountain Valley.
