Adrianna Smith recorded another double-double and the University of Maine women’s basketball team extending its winning streak to four games with a 56-55 victory over UMBC in an America East game Thursday in Baltimore.
Smith scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Black Bears (14-11, 9-3 America East), who remained just behind Binghamton and Vermont in the league standings. Asta Blauenfeldt added nine points.
Maine led by 13 points after a pair of foul shots by Adrianna Smith with 6:51 left. Tiara Bellamy scored six straight points and Delaney Yarmouth hit a jumper with 3:38 remaining to pull UMBC (11-12, 6-5) within three.
Sarah Talon sank two foul shots with two seconds left to give Maine a four-point lead. Jade Tillman hit a 3-pointer with one second left for UMBC.
Bellamy, Tillman, Heidi Williams and Kennedy Austin each scored 12 points for the Retrievers.
