A “No Kings” protest will be held in Carrabassett Valley on March 28, organizers announced.

The protest will add to more than 1,000 similar demonstrations that have been hosted across the country.

“No Kings” demonstrations have grown in popularity in the past year as protesters have gathered to express their dissatisfaction with the Trump administration. This will be the first “No Kings” protest in Carrabassett Valley. There will also be protests held in Bethel and Oxford on the same day.

Organizers say that “No Kings” rallies promote nonviolent opposition to what they say is government overreach.

The demonstration will meet on the roadside of Route 27 and Carriage Road from 8-10 a.m. Parking is available in the back lot of the town office complex, with overflow parking along Carriage Road. The event is being organized by Jan Kolenda.

“Our community is intentionally collaborating to push back against President Trump’s violent, authoritarian actions,” Kolenda said in the email announcement. “We’re bringing together local residents from all walks of life who share a simple message: We don’t do dictators or kings in America.”
