Directors of the school district serving Turner, Greene and Leeds on Thursday night approved a budget for 2026-27 that’s $1.8 million or 4.9% higher than the current budget.
Voters in Maine School Administrative District 52 will weigh in on the $39.2 million budget with voting on May 7 and May 21.
Factoring in adult education costs, Greene’s portion will be $5.9 million with a projected assessment increase of 6.99%, Leeds’ portion will be $3.2 million with a projected assessment increase of 5.15%, and Turner’s portion will be $8.2 million with a projected assessment increase of 2.6%.
There were some positions and items eliminated in the proposed budget, including a school bus and two vacant positions: a regular education intervention technician and a floating custodian, both recent vacancies.
Added positions include a science teacher and social studies teacher at Leavitt Area High School. There are also additions that aren’t reflected in the budget for the special education program for prekindergarten, which is mandated by the state and paid for by the state.
A districtwide vote will be held at 6 p.m. May 7 in the auditorium at the high school at 21 Matthews Way. The budget will go to a validation vote from 1-7 p.m. on May 21 at polling places in Greene, Leeds and Turner.
