Monmouth Academy's Levi Laverdiere celebrates after scoring in the third inning of the Class C championship in June 2025.

1. Monmouth Academy

The reigning Class C state champions are primed for another deep postseason run in 2026. The Mustangs went 16-4 last year and have lost just one starter heading into this season. They added depth to an already dominant pitching staff headed by junior Levi Laverdiere (8-0, 0.38 ERA) and senior Kyle LePage. Also returning is junior center fielder Jake Harmon, who batted .333 with a .448 OBP, .907 OPS, 11 RBI and 16 hits in the regular season. Other key players this spring are seniors Rory Foyt and Tyler Johnson and junior Noah Schultz.

2. Mt. Abram

The Roadrunners (12-4) reached the C South final last season, losing to Monmouth Academy 6-4. Mt. Abram should be able to make another run, and with returners such as senior Killian Pillsbury, who hit .391 and led the team in runs scored, and senior Kaiden Longley, who hit .321 and also went 4-0 with a .165 ERA on the mound. Outside Longley, pitching will be a question mark for the Roadrunners, especially after losing Logan Dube, who led the team in innings pitched last season, to graduation.

3. Oxford Hills

The Vikings are primed for a state final run. Their entire pitching staff returns from a team that lost to eventual Class A North champ Mt. Ararat in the semifinals. Oxford Hills’ two top pitchers are sophomore Carter Davis (4-1) and senior Colton Jendrick, while the offense will be led by senior Cameron Pulkkinen (.434 avg., 23 hits, 11 RBI, 17 runs, one home run) and junior Gunner Truman (.396 avg., 21 hits, 10 RBI, 13 runs). Pulkkinen was first-team All-KVAC, while both he and Truman were Sun Journal All-Region selections.

4. Leavitt

The Hornets were one of the more significant “what ifs” in high school baseball last season. After losing several key players to injury, they were 8-10 record and lost in the second round of the playoffs. Barring injuries, Leavitt should fare better this season thanks to a solid pitching rotation and lineup. Some of the team’s key players include juniors Trent Holst (.345 avg., .437 OBP, 13 RBI, 22 runs, 26 stolen bases) and Ryder Sawyer-Brown (.345 avg., .486 OBP, 8 RBI, 22 runs, 17 stolen bases). Holst and Sawyer-Brown also pitch, throwing 52 and 41 strikeouts, respectively, in 2025.

5. Mt. Blue

The Cougars need to replace their top five pitchers from last season, when they went 11-5 in the regular season before falling to Messalonskee in the opening round of the playoffs. The Cougars do return Oli Cormier, a junior shortstop, who batted .340 with 13 RBI last season. He is also Mt. Blue’s closer, with a fastball in the low-to-mid 80s.
