AUBURN — A man who was the subject of a manhunt Thursday in the Twin Cities that prompted schools and hospitals to lock down was arrested Friday night in Auburn.

Police arrested 34-year-old Ryan Lizotte on an earlier charge of domestic violence assault. The arrest was made at about 7:30 p.m. when police tracked Lizotte to a home on Turner Street.

The night before, police had scaled back their search for the man after information revealed that he had not made threats against the public as previously believed.

At the time, police had a general idea where Lizotte was located, officials said Thursday night. But it wasn’t until Friday night that police from Lewiston and Auburn surrounded the Turner Street home after learning Lizotte was there.

The search for Lizotte initially began early Thursday morning in Auburn when a family member reported that he had made threatening remarks and may have been armed a few hours before he was supposed to check himself into a Lewiston hospital.

The search escalated Thursday afternoon at about 4 p.m. after police learned Lizotte might be located in the area of Union Street in Lewiston.

The search, involving Lewiston and Auburn police along with deputies from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, prompted a lockdown of schools, hospitals and some events in the area.

Those at Bates College and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center opted to shelter-in-place while the Lewiston Middle School was locked down during the long search.

Lewiston police later scaled back the search after learning that no gun was ever seen and that no threats against the public had been made.
