Grace Joly and Evelyn Goudreau played together on the Maineiax Lacrosse club team and were known as proficient goal scorers. Now, they are both conference rookies of the year at NCAA Division III schools in New Hampshire.

Joly, who attends Colby-Sawyer, was named the top rookie in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Goudreau, a Plymouth State freshman, won the Little East Conference honor.

Goudreau, a 2025 Mt. Ararat graduate, got off to a fast start, scoring four goals in a season-opening 10-9 loss to St. Joseph’s College on Feb. 18 in Standish.

“I definitely said just after my first goal, ‘I just felt super confident,’ and my team continued to help me succeed throughout that game,” Goudreau said. “Then I was just like, all right, I’m doing this. I just did my thing, and my team really helped me build up that confidence in our first couple of weeks of practices, going up to that game.”

Goudreau was second on the team in scoring with 41 goals and 11 assists.

Joly, a midfielder, helped Windham win the Class A championship in 2025. She dealt with confidence issues to begin the season.

“But after the first game, when I got my first goal, I was like, ‘OK, I can do this.’ I can contribute more than what I just did,” Joly said. “I took that mindset and switched it and turned it into ‘I’m here for a reason. My coach chooses to put me on the field, and my teammates also trust me and are here for me.’”

Joly finished the season with 39 goals, third-best for the Chargers, and 18 assists.
