LEWISTON — A Portland man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly aiming his car at a bicyclist on Bartlett Street Sunday afternoon.
Police said 29-year-old Gage Gagne intentionally ran down a man at about 1 p.m. Sunday after the pair had fought just minutes earlier.
Witnesses said the victim, a 35-year-old local man, was thrown into the windshield of Gagne’s car before he went sailing over the roof.
Melissa Patterson, who lives in the area, said the victim in the incident fled the scene “without apparent injury, leaving behind a bike with a warped front tire.”
The victim was later found with minor injuries. After arriving at the scene of the wreck, police fanned out across the neighborhood, believing the 35-year-old might be seriously injured.
Police shut down a section of Bartlett Street as they reconstructed the crash site.
Witnesses said Gage drove across a curb in order to slam his Honda Accord into the 35-year-old, who was pedaling away on his bike.
Gage was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and violating conditions of release. Police said additional charges may be added.
At the time of his arrest, Gage was free on bail from a previous assault charge dating back to March 2025 in York County. He is awaiting trial in that case.
