FARMINGTON — The Farmington Rotary Club will host its annual youth fishing derby from 8 a.m. to noon May 23 at Fish ’N Play on Titcomb Hill Road in Farmington. Children ages 4–14 are invited to compete in age-based fishing contests with prizes awarded for the largest fish by length and weight.

Organizer Lisa Park Laflin said the derby has continued to grow since the club began hosting it just under five years ago. About 30 children participated last year.

One of the highlights families look forward to each year, she said, is the excitement of “catching the big one.”

The pond is stocked specifically for the derby, and volunteers will be available throughout the morning to help with measuring fish, providing bait and assisting younger children.

Laflin said preregistration is not required, and families may arrive that morning to register and participate.
