Lewiston’s Harlee Gasser pitched a no-hitter, but Oxford Hills prevailed 5-0 in a Class A North softball matchup Monday in Paris.
The Vikings (8-0), who are ranked third in the Varsity Maine poll, drew seven walks, and the sixth-ranked Blue Devils (6-3) committed six errors.
Oxford Hills pitcher Kyeria Morse allowed only one hit and didn’t walk a batter while striking out 14.
Gasser finished with eight strikeouts. Lewiston’s Elsie Cloutier singled for the game’s only hit.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 16, MADISON 1: Santika Hodgkin blasted a grand slam as part of a 15-run third inning that propelled the Phoenix (2-4) to a four-inning victory over the Bulldogs (2-3) in Jay.
Winning pitcher Rylee Turner doubled, tripled and drove in two runs. Hodgkin’s homer and Turner’s two extra-base hits were the Phoenix’s only hits. They drew 19 walks, including several with the bases loaded.
Turner struck out four and walked one. She allowed one hit, a solo home run by Amma Anton in the top of the third that gave Madison a brief 1-0 lead.
EDWARD LITTLE 14, MT. BLUE 2: A nine-run first sparked the Red Eddies (7-2) to a five-inning win over the Cougars (2-5) in Auburn.
Edward Little added four runs in the second and one in the fourth. Jayda Clark paced the offense with two hits, two RBI and two runs. Lauren Bolduc singled and drove in two runs, and Chloe LeBlanc had a double.
LeBlanc also pitched all five innings, striking out six and allowing three hits and four walks.
Molly Hambrick hit a two-run double for Mt. Blue in the second inning.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 9, POLAND 3: Lily Fortin allowed three runs on seven hits, with one walk and eight strikeouts, to lead the Panthers (8-1) past the Knights (6-3) in Yarmouth.
Aurora Blier had two RBI, Reese Weaver had a double and a single, and Cami Casserly had three hits for NYA.
Phoebe Paradis drove in two runs for Poland.
BASEBALL
POLAND 12, WAYNFLETE/NYA 0: Alex Mains hit two homers and drove in five runs to key a 16-hit onslaught by the Knights (4-5) in a Western Maine Conference win in Portland.
Mains also doubled and finished with four hits. Aiden Bean, Will Stanford, Colby Dolley and Damon Martin added two hits apiece. Dolley and Martin each had a double. Poland plated four runs in the fourth and five in the seventh.
Knights pitcher Eliot Rioux tossed a shutout, striking out nine and scattering six hits.
Grady Argereow and Kellen Gardiner doubled for Waynflete/NYA (6-3).
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 11, BOOTHBAY 0: Kegan Jordan pitched a two-hit shutout, and Braydan Hughes and Zach McLean paced the Falcons (5-2) in a five-inning victory over the Seahawks (1-6) in Rumford.
Jordan struck out seven and allowed one walk in five innings. He also had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs.
Hughes singled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice, while McLean had two hits, two RBI and scored a run.
Les White and Colby Doucette got Boothbay’s hits. Casey Phelps pitched four innings and struck out eight.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 9, MADISON 6: Trent Lovewell struck out 15 and combined with Cayden Ball for a no-hitter as the Phoenix (2-4) took down the Bulldogs (2-5) in Livermore Falls.
Lovewell pitched the first six innings and Ball handled the seventh.
Blake Gemelli singled, doubled and drove in two runs for Spruce Mountain. Brayden Fournier (double) and Brody Veilleux also had two RBI apiece.
Madison used seven walks and six Spruce Mountain errors to manufacture six runs. Starting pitcher Griffin Dickey struck out six in 2 2/3 innings and reliever Jayden Horton fanned five in his 2 2/3 innings.
OXFORD HILLS 14, LEWISTON 2: Finley Cavers recorded two hits, including a double, while driving home three runs for the Vikings (7-1) in a five-inning win over the Blue Devils (0-8) in Paris.
Cavers and Cam Pulkkinen each scored three times.
Jacoby Boyce tripled and had two RBI. Colton Jendrick notched two doubles and scored twice, and Tucker Hilden doubled and brought home a run.
Owen Norton doubled for Lewiston and had two RBI.
BOYS LACROSSE
CONY/HALL-DALE 15, OXFORD HILLS 8: Tenny Tibbetts had eight goals and two assists to lead the Rams (5-2) past the Vikings (1-5) in South China.
Alex Leet added two goals and five assists for the Cony co-op, while Connor Callahan had one goal and one assist and won nine faceoffs. Michael Massey and Logan Rosa each added a goal and an assist, and Bryce Watson and Ben Carpenter also scored. Kam Jones stopped 13 shots.
