A contractor carries a sheet of plywood Monday morning to seal windows and doors at 53-55 Bradley St. in Lewiston after a fire there Sunday morning. According to Yassin Moussa, the landlord, no one was in the second-floor apartment when the fire broke out there. Moussa said a fire official stopped by on Monday to condemn the building. Moussa said he was waiting for his insurance representative to assess the condition of the building to determine if it can be repaired. A fire heavily damaged an apartment building and displaced two families Sunday at 53-55 Bradley St. in Lewiston, fire Chief Mark Caron said.

The building is uninhabitable, he said.

Firefighters arrived one minute after the 10:04 a.m. report, according to a Lewiston Fire Department Facebook post, and encountered flames showing from the second-floor apartment.

“Through coordinated and aggressive efforts, firefighters had the fire under control in 20 minutes,” the post states.

The second floor and roof sustained significant damage, Caron said.

Two families were living in the building, he said. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation by the Office of State Fire Marshal. Auburn and Lisbon fire departments assisted on scene and covered the station.
