Alex Mains threw a three-hitter to help Poland outduel rival Gray-New Gloucester 2-1 in a Class B South baseball game Friday in Gray.

Mains struck out two batters and threw only 82 pitches over seven innings. Mains contributed at the plate, as well, recording with two hits driving in a run. Shawn West (RBI), Elliot Roux and Colby Dolley added two hits apiece for the Knights (7-6).

Liam Joyce also pitched a complete game and struck out six for Gray-New Gloucester (3-7).

Landon York drove in the Patriots’ lone run.

MARANACOOK 16, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 6: Caldre Glowa drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, and the Black Bears (12-1) beat the Falcons (5-6) in a five-inning game in Readfield.

Grady Hreben struck out nine and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before giving up a one-out single by Brayden Hughes. The Falcons scored five runs in the fifth despite getting only one hit but couldn’t prevent the mercy rule from going into effect.

Hreben and Grant Walters both scored three runs.

EDWARD LITTLE 4, BREWER 1: Max Nelson tripled and drove in two runs, and the Red Eddies (7-6) rallied past the Witches (1-12) in Brewer.

Edward Little erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the fifth inning, then added another in the sixth.

Max Kimble went the distance on the mound for the Red Eddies, scattering nine hits. He struck out nine and walked two.

Nelson, Tallen Berry-Hart and Evan Scott all finished with two hits and a run scored.

Cody Hews and Frederick Stewart each had two hits for Brewer.

SOFTBALL

MOUNTAIN VALLEY 19, MARANACOOK 3: Leadoff hitter Mackenzie Gammon had two hits, drove in two runs and scored three times as the Falcons (5-4) beat the Black Bears (1-9) in a five-inning game in Readfield.

Kyanah Wing added a double and scored three times, while Addison Libby had two hits, including a triple. Addison Tidswell scored three runs and drove in two.

Paige Magee had two hits for Maranacook.

SKOWHEGAN 5, OXFORD HILLS 3: Maesyn Atherton keyed a three-run first inning with a two-run double, then added an RBI single in the second inning to help the River Hawks (10-3) beat the Vikings (11-2) in Skowhegan.

Myah Dudley and Laney Wentworth also had RBI singles for Skowhegan.

Both teams finished with nine hits. Kyeria Morse, who struck out 12 batters, paced the offense for Oxford Hills with a double and two singles.

POLAND 21, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 8: Julia Paradis was 4 for 4 with four runs scored, Delila Farrington drove in four runs, and the Knights (8-5) outslugged the Patriots (4-7) in a five-inning game in Gray.

The Knights produced 19 hits, including three by Gabby Lenahan. Irelyn Smith tripled and drove in three runs, and Lenahan, Brenna Galipeau-Eldridge and Karlee Lothrop all had two RBI. Phoebe Paradis and Carly-Ann Jarvis both scored three times.

Madalyn Patrick was 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBI for Gray-New Gloucester. Valerie Farrar also had three hits and scored twice.

BREWER 4, EDWARD LITTLE 0: Sara Young pitched a three-hitter to give the Witches (6-7) a big Class A North win over the Red Eddies (9-4) in Brewer.

Young struck out six and walked one. Brewer seized control with a three-run third inning. Audrey Loupin led the offensive with three hits and an RBI, while Deliah Gobeil drove in two runs.

Edward Little pitcher Chloe LeBlanc fanned 10 and allowed nine hits. Elizabeth Galway had two of the Red Eddies’ three hits.
