Edward Little won two of three tightly contested singles matches and swept doubles to earn a 4-1 girls tennis victory over rival Lewiston in both teams’ regular-season finale Tuesday in Auburn.

Edward Little’s Olivia Turgeon dropped the first set of the No. 2 singles match, but bounced back to defeat Lewiston’s Evelyn Caron 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Olivia Tassinari won No. 3 singles for the Red Eddies (5-7), prevailing in a tiebreaker against Isabella Caldeira in the first set, then taking the second to win 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

Lewiston’s (7-5) Suzie Diamond-Stanic also had to win a first-set tiebreaker before downing Katie Morgan at No. 1 singles 7-6 (7-5), 6-0.

In doubles, Edward Little’s No. 1 duo Kendall Gravel and Lola Cunningham defeated Emonie Walton and Ashley Cloutier 6-1, 6-2. Clara Wilson and Lacie Dermody took No. 2 singles for the Red Eddies, 6-0, 6-3 against Ava Jeanne Kramer and Tessa Douglass.

At Bates College in Lewiston, the Edward Little boys also beat Lewiston by a 4-1 score.

SOFTBALL

MONMOUTH ACADEMY 5, MADISON 0: Evelyn Pettengill pitched a two-hitter and struck out 12, leading the Mustangs (9-2) past the Bulldogs (5-8) in Monmouth.

Pettengill also smacked a double and a triple — two of Monmouth’s five hits — and drove in a run.

Madison (5-8) pitcher Jillian Linkletter struck out nine and scattered five hits over six innings.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY 13, LISBON 2: Kyanah Wing had three hits, including a double, as the Falcons (6-5) beat the Greyhounds (9-3) in five innings in Lisbon.

Madeleine Brown recorded three RBI and scored three times for Mountain Valley, which put the mercy rule into effect with an eight-run fifth inning. The Falcons took advantage of five errors and seven walks.

Winning pitcher Addison Libby allowed two runs on six hits while striking out two and walking none.

Mackenzie Eaton hit a double, Ava Kottman had a triple and Brynn Chase slugged a home run for Lisbon.

POLAND 12, FREEPORT 5: Gabby Lenahan drove home three runs with a pair of hits for the Knights (10-5) in a win over the Falcons (6-7) in Poland.

Leski Langevin doubled twice and recorded two RBI. Karlee Lothrop (two RBI), Carly-Ann Jarvis (RBI) and Julia Paradis also each hit a double, and Phoebe Paradis had three singles and a RBI.

Alison Brown doubled and singled twice for Freeport. Brown, Ava Emmons and Lucy Erskine each drove in a run.

BASEBALL

OXFORD HILLS 11, EDWARD LITTLE 3: Leadoff hitter Gunner Truman was 4 for 5 with three runs scored, and the Vikings (12-1) beat the Red Eddies (7-7) in Auburn.

Cam Pulkkinen doubled and drove in three runs for Oxford Hills, the No. 3 team in the Varsity Maine poll. Finley Cavers added two hits, including a double, and scored twice.

Alex St. Laurent and Dom Dumais each had an RBI for Edward Little, and Max Nelson tripled.

BOOTHBAY 4, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0: Casey Phelps tossed a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks, and the Seahawks (2-9) shut out the Phoenix (2-9) in Boothbay Harbor.

Trent Lovewell took the loss despite striking out 13 and giving up only two hits. Boothbay took advantage of six walks and two errors.

Lovewell also had the game’s only extra-base hit, a double.

FREEPORT 7, POLAND 5: Bryson Jack had two hits, scored three runs and drove in another, and the Falcons (6-8) downed the Knights (7-8) in nine innings in Poland.

Liam Emmons drove in two runs, and Andrew Thomas and Montana Dugal each had two hits and an RBI for Freeport. Thomas pitched three innings of hitless relief with two strikeouts for the win.

Alex Mains and Damon Martin each had two hits, and Mains scored two runs scored for Poland.

BOYS LACROSSE

LEWISTON 8, CONY/HALL-DALE 7: Myles Walker scored twice, including the winner in the fourth quarter, as the Blue Devils (5-6) beat the Rams (7-4) in Lewiston.

Collin Michaud recorded three goals and an assist for Lewiston. Ben Gradwell and Cam Plourde each had a goal and an assist, and Bernado Fra-Nero also scored. Blue Devils goalie Logan Hiscock made 12 saves.

Alex Leet scored twice and had an assist for Cony, which got four goals in the third quarter to tie the game. Michael Massey added two goals, Connor Callahan finished with a goal and three assists, and Connor Poirier had one goal.

GIRLS LACROSSE

MARANACOOK/WINTHROP 18, YORK 5: Alice Ferran tallied five goals and an assist, and the Black Bears (12-0) remained undefeated as they rolled past the Wildcats (4-6) in York.

Cooper Davis added four goals, and Celia Bergdahl and Ingrid Stewart each had three goals and an assist.

Lucy Taylor led York with two goals.
