A Mexico man was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly threatened to shoot jail staff and assaulted a Paris police officer during a verbal and physical confrontation at the Oxford County Complex in South Paris.

Rex Call, 40, was charged with two counts of terrorizing, two counts of violation of release, refusing to submit to detention or arrest, and assault on a police officer, according to a news statement from James Urquhart, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy.

Call was out on bail for a 2025 charge of a negotiating a worthless instrument. 

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a Mexico resident on
Richard’s Avenue about 6 a.m. Tuesday reporting they were having a property dispute with their male neighbor.

“During the dispute the neighbor reportedly made a statement they were going to shoot up the
sheriff’s office,” Urquhart wrote.

At approximately 6:56 a.m., the male showed up at the Oxford County Complex that houses the jail, sheriff’s office and other county government offices in South Paris threatening to shoot jail staff.

The Paris and Norway police departments and the Oxford County Sheriff’s
Office responded to the complex, where a verbal and physical confrontation ensued, he wrote.

“During the confrontation, the male physically assaulted a Paris police officer,” Urquhart wrote. “The male was subsequently tased multiple times by police officers before being taken into custody.”
