DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Maine Iris Society presents The Annual June Flower Show at Auburn Middle School, 38 Falcon Drive, in Auburn, on Saturday, June 13, from 1:30-4 p.m. This is open to the public and admission is free. 

Get ready to feast your eyes on a stunning display of tall bearded and Siberian iris, amazing Hosta leaves, and gorgeous peony blooms. Come and vote for your favorite. 

Bare-root dwarf iris will be available for $3 for a double fan. Potted plants will be for sale as well. — Edith, Auburn

ANSWER: I’ve just learned something new. I didn’t know Maine had an Iris Society, and I’m here for it! This event sounds like a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

The organization’s mission is to develop the science of horticulture, specifically through the propagation and culture of the genus Iris; to stimulate and foster interest in irises through education of the public and our members.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: There will be a church supper at West Auburn Congregational Church at 811 West Auburn Road in Auburn on Saturday, June 27, from 4:30-6 p.m.

Lasagna, macaroni and cheese, salad, garlic bread, cake and drinks will be served. The meal is $13 for adults ages 15 and older; $5 for those ages 4 to 14, and free for those ages 3 and younger. — Jenny, West Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: There will be a baked bean supper at Sixth Street Congregational Church at 109 Sixth St. in Auburn on Tuesday, June 30, from 4:30-6 p.m. 

There will be two kinds of beans, red hot dogs, brown hot dogs, cole slaw, assorted casseroles, assorted desserts and beverages. The cost is $12 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12, and free for children 5 years and younger. — Elizabeth, Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Current needs at the Drop-in Center at 121 Mill St. in Auburn include clean blankets, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, small tarps (6 by 8 feet or 8 by 10 feet), men’s pants in all sizes, men’s shirts in all sizes, woman’s pants in sizes 0, 2, 4, 6, 2X, 3X and 4X, women’s sport bras in all sizes, women’s underwear in sizes 6 and 8, men’s and women’s socks, hoodies, spring/summer jackets, bug spray, sun screen, aloe gel, sun glasses, body wipes, unscented bar soap, travel size shave cream and travel size hand sanitizer.
