No one was injured Thursday after a car driven by an 18-year-old local man struck a house at 818 North River Road in Greene, William Gagne, chief deputy for the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, said Friday.
“Speed is considered a factor in the crash,” he said.
The driver, from Greene, told a county deputy that he swerved to avoid hitting a deer, went off the road and struck a house causing “significant structural damage,” Gagne said, as well as damaged to the car.
The driver was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving to endanger, Gagne said. A conviction carries a maximum six months in jail.
The Sun Journal does not name people charged with a crime unless we plan to follow the case through the court system.
Christine Sanders Gianopoulas, owner of the house, wrote on the Citizens of Greene Facebook page to thank Androscoggin County sheriff deputies, Greene Fire Department and Lindy’s wrecker service in Greene “for your fast and professional response to the car crashing into our house. Lots of structural damage, but no one hurt, just rattled.”
