Maine School Administrative District 52 directors on Thursday reduced the proposed budget by about $100,000 and agreed to use $150,000 more from carryover to offset the burden on taxpayers, Superintendent Cari Medd said Friday.
The proposal of $39 million, which represents a 4.59% increase over the current budget, will go to voters in a districtwide budget meeting at 5:30 p.m. on June 11 at Leavitt Area High School at 21 Matthews Way in Turner.
The spending amount set at that meeting will go to a final validation referendum on June 25, from 1-7 p.m. at the town offices in Greene, Leeds and Turner.
Voters on May 21 rejected the first budget proposal by 12 votes.
The first proposal used $600,000 in carryover, Medd said. The revised budget has $750,000 in carryover, she said.
The board made small reductions spread over the entire district to make it less disruptive on students and staff, board Chairman Peter Ricker said.
“No positions were cut,” he said.
About $20,000 in contracted services was cut from student athletic transportation, with hopes that the district will have enough bus drivers in the coming year and not have to contract out, Medd said
“We are hoping to have a successful school year,” Ricker said.
Under the revised proposal, Greene’s share would increase 5.94%; with Leeds and Turner up 4.11% and 1.59%, respectively.
