DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Anglican Church of the Transfiguration at 64 Elm St. in Mechanic Falls will again be accepting donations for our yard sale on Saturday, June 20. We are looking for usable items, but please no clothing, and only small working appliances. Donations can be dropped off at the church on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
We have lots of plans for Community Day this year including fireworks on Friday, June 19, at 9 p.m. on the ball fields behind the Town Office. All are welcome to attend. Saturday morning we’re looking forward to our 5K Fun Run, a parade, Mr. Drew and His Animals Too, Showtime Steve, and vendors, as well as Kids’ Zone. Details are available on the Mechanic Falls Community Days Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089815518254.
We’re hoping to have a fun day and a good turnout! — Nancy, Mechanic Falls
ANSWER: Here’s to a beautiful Maine summer weekend and a big crowd to enjoy the festivities!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’d like to remind everyone in the Lewiston High School class of 1961 that we are celebrating our 65th anniversary reunion at Schooner Estates in Auburn on June 22.
Invitations have gone out, and this is a reminder that if you plan on attending, we would like to hear from you before June 12. The contact is [email protected]. Please disregard this notice if you’re all set to attend. — Marc, no town
ANSWER: I’m sure you’ll all have a wonderful time catching up. And remember, Sun Spotters, if you have a reunion coming up this summer, we can help you find your classmates and spread the word about the event.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you list anyone who does alterations in the Lewiston Auburn area?—Peter, no town
ANSWER: In the Rolodex, I have Sue Roebuck, “Mom the Mender” on Upper St., Turner (754-6558); The Mill End Store at 971 Main St., Oxford (539-4451); Make It Sew, LLC in Bowdoinham ([email protected]); LA Clean & Spin/John’s Clean & Spin, 782-3466 in Auburn or at 784-9096 in Lewiston; If You Say Sew in Durham, 653-5507; Veronica’s Creations in Greene, 514-6820; and Chez Dorea (Dorea Fortier) in Lewiston, 783-2908.
I can personally recommend Karen at Make It Sew, and I recently received letters about Veronica’s Creations and Chez Dorea where the writers stated they were very pleased with those Sun Spots recommendations.
I know there must be other folks out there who are talented with sewing, mending, alterations, and creating. Let me know if you are one of them or if you have someone to recommend. It’s time to plump up the Rolodex. I’m counting on you to help.
