A Portland juvenile was cited for a speeding violation after a two-car crash in Raymond that overturned one of the vehicles and caused minor injuries to both drivers, officials said.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday that deputies responded to the crash on North Raymond Road around 7:30 a.m.

The initial investigation indicates that the juvenile was driving south in a Honda Accord and attempted to make an illegal pass in the opposing lane of traffic. While the Accord was in the other lane, a Lewiston woman driving a Nissan Rogue southbound also tried to make an illegal pass.

The two cars crashed into each other, causing the Honda to overturn, the sheriff’s office said.

Both vehicles were significantly damaged in the crash, and both drivers were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

North Raymond Road was briefly closed near the scene of the crash but has since reopened to traffic, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s office Capt. Kerry Joyce said Wednesday morning that the juvenile driver received an imprudent speed citation.

The crash is under investigation.
