AUBURN — Following Lewiston/Oak Hill’s final girls lacrosse game of the regular season, coach Jeremy Finney couldn’t help but marvel about the Blue Devils’ improvement since last spring.
“I am so proud of this team, from where we were last year to where we are now,” said Finney. “We’ve come miles. Miles and miles. So I’m just proud of how we were able to come together.”
The Blue Devils defeated rival Edward Little 14-6 on Tuesday to improve to 8-6 after going 1-13 in 2025.
Where the Blue Devils will be ranked in the Class A playoffs has yet to be determined, but a postseason berth is assured.
“This game pretty much would help solidify us into the playoffs, but would also help with seeding,” Finney said. “Right now, we were sitting 10th. This game should help us cement that spot, but there are other games going on. Some teams have (a game) tomorrow, so that could affect where we finish ultimately. But we left it all in our hands with this game.”
How it happened
• The Blue Devils (8-6) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Jayda Smith and Skylar Vachon each tallied a goal within the first two and half minutes. The momentum was halted for the rest of the quarter, however. Edward Little (4-10) evened the score at 2-2 early in the second, but Lewiston/Oak Hill built a 6-3 advantage by halftime.
• Other than an Edward Little goal with under four minutes to play in the third quarter, the second half belonged to Lewiston/Oak Hill. The Blue Devils opened the half with three straight goals and finished the game with seven in a row.
Statistical leaders
• Lewiston/Oak Hill: Skylar Vachon (four goals), Anna Courtemanche (two goals), Jayda Smith (two goals, assist)
• Edward Little: Lily Frahm (three goals), Kylie Dulac (two assists)
Heard it here first
• “I’m just so excited to go to playoffs, and it’s always in the back of our mind because I’ve never been to playoffs, and I don’t think any of the girls have, so all going into playoffs together is amazing, and I’m so excited.” — Skylar Vachon
• “The great thing about (Vachon) today is Sky never let up. She never got down. She kept pushing through. If there was a mistake, she got up and wanted to get the next one, and she worked harder to get the ball back. And I can’t tell her, again, how proud I am to get through the hard things and then to be able to keep shooting, keep shooting, keep getting the ground balls, keep hustling, and then all of a sudden for it to come through” — Lewiston/Oak Hill coach Jeremy Finney
