
Run in L-A for fun, for health and to help others
AUBURN — The Greater L-A Triple Crown 5K series takes to the starting line this Sunday, June 7, at Festival Plaza on Main Street in Auburn with the running of the YMCA Fit Fest, the first of three races in the summer series.
The kids’ fun run is free and starts at 8 a.m. followed by the adult run at 8:30. The race is open to people of all ages. Each race includes a wheelchair division.
The Triple Crown is a series of running races through Lewiston and Auburn that create a sense of community, promote healthy activities and raise support and awareness for three partnering charitable organizations: the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA, the Fletcher Foundation and the Bridge Run Foundation.
Parking is available at the parking garage on Mechanics Row next to Auburn Hall.
The second event of the series is Emily’s Run on July 19 starting at Edward Little High School at 77 Harris St. The third is the L-A Bridge Run on Aug. 23 starting at Lown Peace Bridge in New Auburn.

March in L-A as part of Pride Month
AUBURN —The Great Falls Pride March and Festival will take place Sunday, June 7, gathering at 10 a.m. at the corner of Great Falls Plaza and Court Street in Auburn.
The festival and march celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in greater Lewiston-Auburn. At 10:30 a.m., participants will march from Auburn to Lewiston via the Longley Bridge and continue down Lincoln Street to Simard-Payne Memorial Park.
After some brief remarks, there will be celebrating in the park and festivalgoers can enjoy the nearby Lewiston Farmers’ Market.
Parking in Auburn is available in the Mechanics Row garage.
Hear the DaPonte String Quartet in Farmington
FARMINGTON — The DaPonte String Quartet with guest artists Edwin Barker and Yuri Funahashi will perform at Nordica Auditorium in Merrill Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington on Thursday, June 4, at 7 p.m.
Tickets can be bought online at artsfarmington.org or at the door. The suggested adult ticket price is $25. The concert is free for UMF students. It is also free for youth 18 and younger through the Arts Inspire Youth program.
Renowned bass player Edwin Barker is former principal of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Yuri Funahashi is one of Maine’s most talented and favorite pianists.
The program will celebrate two pillars of the chamber music repertoire: Antonín Dvořák’s Bass Quintet and Franz Schubert’s beloved “Trout” Quintet.

Go tropical with Mango Groove in Denmark
DENMARK — Mango Groove Steel Drum Band will bring its Caribbean-flavored sound to the Denmark Arts Center on Friday, June 5, at 7 p.m.
Mango Groove plays a variety of dance music, including calypso, reggae, jazz, Motown and more with a Caribbean flavor that only the uplifting rhythmic sounds of a steel band can create. The performance will include Afro-Caribbean drumming, with an invitation for the audience to learn some dances, do the limbo, or just “jump up” and join the fun, according to organizers.

Get the buzz about Maine’s insect pollinators in Lewiston
LEWISTON — On Wednesday, June 10, at 5:30 p.m. join Dr. Katie Burns, an ecologist and science communicator based in midcoast Maine, as she talks about Maine pollinators at the Lewiston Public Library.
Burns has worked in the fields of ecology and conservation for over 13 years, focusing mainly on native insect pollinators.
She will introduce participants to Maine’s native, wild pollinators, debunk common myths and misconceptions about pollinators, and offer advice on how to support these important critters – even without a yard or a garden.

Take in three world premieres in Lewiston
LEWISTON —Trinity Commons Chamber Orchestra will perform at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 6, at 3 p.m.
The orchestra will perform a concert titled “The Vienna Woods to the New England Shore” featuring three world premieres.
Admission is a freewill offering to support the mission of Trinity Commons.

Do some ‘in-line’ dancing in Lewiston
LEWISTON — On Wednesday, June 3, from 6:30-9 p.m., Continental Shakedown will present music for a night of lively line dancing at the Franco Center.
Dance suggestions for each song will be offered by the Franco Center’s own Jake Hodgkin. No experience required.

Get out and vote everywhere
The state’s primary election is Tuesday, June 9, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in most locations. Voting for primary candidates for Congress, governor, and the Maine Legislature will take place, as will voting for races for county, municipal and school board positions.
