ANSWER: It is my pleasure to get the word out for these fundraising events. You Sun Spotters are busy bees — helping your communities and keeping things up and running. I appreciate every one of you!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library invite the community to their annual Spring Book and Bake Sale on Sunday, June 7, from noon to 3 p.m. at the New Gloucester Public Library, 379 Intervale Road.

A members-only preview sale will take place earlier that day from 11 a.m. to noon. Community members who are not yet part of the Friends are encouraged to join the event to enjoy early access while supporting the library. — Annemarie, New Gloucester

ANSWER: Now, more than ever, we need to support our local libraries. Another suggestion I’d like to make is that when you’re out and about touring around the country or even just in Maine this summer, make a point to visit libraries in all the different towns.

If you’re not familiar with what your library has to offer this summer, make sure you find out!

DEAR SUNSPOTS: We’re seeking more Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteers, who are age 55 and older from Androscoggin County to support our clients in our SEARCH Program. These people ages 60 and older are waiting for someone to visit them, provide companionship, and help them with their grocery shopping and other errands.

Many of our clients are isolated and are in their 70s, 80s and 90s. It would be great to have volunteers from their communities, which include Auburn, Lewiston, Lisbon/Lisbon Falls, Greene, etc.

SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage, & Hope) is a Program of Catholic Charities. We have wonderful volunteers who are matched one on one with older and isolated clients. They volunteer three to four hours per week to a senior by providing home visits or by assisting them with transportation for their errands in the community. If you are interested in volunteering, we would love to talk to you about joining our program and volunteering with us!
For more information about becoming a volunteer with us or referring an older adult in need of our services, please call our main office at 784-0157. We will send you a volunteer application packet and brochure and reach out to the potential client who needs services to learn more.

We hope you will join our program by becoming a volunteer and help to make a difference in the life of an isolated older adult in your community. — Wendy, no town
