Falmouth won its first 12 games this season, but couldn’t garner even one first-place vote in the Varsity Maine boys lacrosse poll. That’s because Thornton was monopolizing them as the unanimous No. 1 team in the first six polls of the season. The Golden Trojans won last year’s Class A championship — pulling off a huge upset over Falmouth in the state final — returned a lot of key players and won their first 13 games of 2026.

Thornton had a tight grip on No. 1 and wasn’t just going to let go. Falmouth needed rip it away, and that’s what the Navigators did on June 6 with an 11-3 victory in a showdown of the top two teams in the state. Now Falmouth is the unanimous No. 1, while Thornton received all of the second-place votes.

The Navigators also locked down the top seed in the Class A playoffs. The Golden Trojans are second. Since the state final is played at a neutral site, the main advantage of the No. 1 seed is avoiding third-seeded Yarmouth in the semifinals. The Clippers have been receiving all of the third-place votes in the Varsity Maine poll for several weeks.

York was outside the poll last week, but has jumped into a tie for sixth place. The Wildcats finished the regular season 9-5 and are seeded third in Class B, behind Greely and Messalonskee, but none of their five losses are to a Class B squad.

The Varsity Maine boys lacrosse poll is based on games played before Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
