HARTFORD — A Canton woman was pulled from a mangled SUV on Wednesday afternoon just before the vehicle went up in flames.
Two women were hurt in the 4:40 p.m. crash on Bear Pond Road when the Subaru Forester slammed into several rocks before rolling over.
The driver of the Subaru, a 52-year-old Canton woman, was ejected from the car and sustained injuries described as life-threatening. She was taken to a Portland hospital by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter.
Her passenger, a 65-year-old, was trapped inside the car before a passing motorist pulled her to safety, police said.
The 65-year-old also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
The conditions of the women were not available early Wednesday night. Their identifications were not released as police were still seeking to notify family members.
The crash forced the closure of Bear Pond Road, which is also Route 219, while medics treated the victims and police prepared to investigate.
The road was closed into early Wednesday night as the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department investigates. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around the area.
