In primary races Tuesday, Franklin County residents voted for Republican Earl Lee Ireland of Industry for the county commission District 4 seat and for incumbent Republican Commissioner Jeff Gilbert of Jay for the District 5 seat.

Ireland bested fellow Republican Bob Carlton of Freeman Township, who serves as chairman of the board of commissioners, by a 496-366 vote. He will have no Democratic opponent in November. District 4 serves the residents of Carrabassett Valley, Dallas Plantation, East Central Franklin, Industry, Kingfield, New Sharon, New Vineyard and Wyman Township.

Gilbert defeated Earl Martin of Chesterville 341-214. He will run against Democrat Gary McGrane of Jay in Novermber. District 5 serves residents of Jay and Chesterville.
