DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Lisbon School Nutrition Program is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals are free for school students up to 18 years old. Meals are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability, and there will be no discrimination during the meal service.

ANSWER: More and more of these markets are popping up and I’m here for it. It’s fun to map out a plan on the weekends and hop around from place to place searching out the best goodies.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have been downsizing and came across some old fire extinguishers with the chemical foam still in them. How do I dispose of those? — Jenny, no town

ANSWER: Start by calling the nonemergency number of your town’s fire department and they may take them off your hands. These could still be usable for training if they’re not too old. If not, fire department staff can possibly recommend where you can take them.

Because fire extinguishers are considered to be hazardous waste, you may have to wait to take them to your municipality’s hazard waste collection day. Fire equipment dealers will take them and so will some Lowe’s and Home Depot stores, but be sure to call ahead and ask.

There are ways to safely expel the chemical foam yourself and then dispose of the empty cylinders but to be honest, I’d let the experts handle that.
