DEAR SUN SPOTS: Turner Public Library will hold its Annual Book Sale in the Community Room of the Leavitt Institute Building, 98 Matthews Way in Turner, Thursday through Sunday, July 2-5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Unless otherwise marked, books are priced at $1 for hardcovers and 50 cents for paperbacks. There are books for all ages and interests, as well as puzzles, and other treasures. On Sunday, July 5, there will be a fill-a-bag sale for $5 each. — Sadie, Turner

DEAR SUNSPOTS: We’re seeking more Retired Senior Volunteer Program volunteers age 55 and older from Androscoggin County to support our clients in our SEARCH Program. These clients are age 60 and older and are waiting for someone to visit them, provide companionship, and help them with their grocery shopping and other errands. 

Many of our clients are isolated and are in their 70s to 90s. It would be great to have volunteers from their communities that include Auburn, Lewiston, Lisbon/Lisbon Falls, Greene, etc. 

SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage, & Hope) is a program of Catholic Charities. We have wonderful volunteers who are matched one on one to our older and isolated clients. They give three to four hours per week to do home visits or assistance with transportation for their errands in the community. If you are interested in volunteering, we would love to talk to you about joining our program and volunteering with us!
For more information about becoming a volunteer or referring an older adult in need of our services, please call our main office at 784-0157. We will send you a volunteer application packet and brochure and reach out to the potential client who needs services.
