Richard McKenna

LEWISTON – Richard McKenna, 89, of Jay, passed away Monday, June 15, 2026, at St. Mary’s D’Youville Pavilion, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 23, 1936, in Rumford, the son of Peter Omer McKenna and Ceila (Perry) McKenna. Richard attended Stephens High School in Rumford.

On Oct. 21, 1966, he married the love of his life, Therese Chicoine at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay and they shared 58 years together until her passing on May 7, 2024.

Richard retired in 1992 as a foreman in the stock prep department at International Paper. He was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Richard enjoyed skiing in his younger years and being with family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Joseph McKenna of Wilton; two grandchildren, Skye Bunker and husband Matthew of Ellsworth, Taylor McKenna and partner Matthew Jean of Lewiston; five great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Jean, Jayden Henry, Patrick Saucier, Nathan Bunker, and Jackson Bunker. He is also survived by his nephew, Ken Landry, who was instrumental in his care for the past three years; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Albert Landry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Doris Noble, Genevieve Imerito, and Theresa Gallant Langlais, and a brother, Peter O. McKenna.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 445 Park St. Livermore Falls. A reception will follow the graveside service at LaFleurs Restaurant, 224 Main St., Jay.
