AUBURN — Bath & Body Works has relocated from the Auburn Mall after nearly 30 years at its original location.

The new store is less than a mile away in the Auburn Plaza at 730 Center St., next to Ocean State Job Lot.

The retailer opened its new location June 5 and customer traffic is reported as “steady.” Bath & Body Works corporate does not let employees speak to the media and the company did not respond to requests for more information.

Bath & Body Works was entrenched in the Auburn Mall and has been there since 1997, when, on April 3 of that year, the mall took out an ad that read, “Auburn Mall has a brand new way for you to pamper yourself. Bath & Body Works is now open, offering hundreds of aromatic and soothing ways to treat yourself or a friend to something special.”

An April 6, 1997, story in the Sun Journal reported that Bath & Body Works had opened in the mall on March 29 and that it was a division of The Limited. The two became separate entities in August of 2021.

The company describes itself as “bringing joy to millions of customers and helping the world live more fully through the power of fragrance.”

The company website says there are more than 1,900 Bath & Body Works locations in North America and 500-plus international locations.
