Cheverus started the season as the favorite in Class A and was ranked No. 1 in the first Varsity Maine softball poll of the season. The Stags followed through and finished off an undefeated (20-0) with a 3-2 win over Hampden Academy in the Class A championship, and they are still atop the Varsity Maine poll, as they were ranked every week this spring — and they were the unanimous No. 1 in all but two polls.

Class B champion Medomak Valley finishes as the state’s No. 2 team, while Class C champ Dirigo is ranked ninth. The Panthers were third last week, and this is the Cougars’ first time in the rankings.

Hampden hadn’t been in the top 10 this season, but an impressive run to the Class A North title and a close state final against Cheverus, moved the Broncos up to this.

This is the final Varsity Maine softball poll of the 2026 season. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
