Catch the Great Falls Brewfest on tap this weekend in Lewiston

LEWISTON — The 11th annual Great Falls Brewfest, one of Maine’s premier craft beer events, will take place at Simard-Payne Memorial Park, 46 Beech St., from noon to 5 p.m. this Saturday, June 27.

Presented by Baxter Brewing Co., the event will feature 30-plus breweries, cideries, hard seltzer makers and nonalcoholic options from New England and beyond — “plus a few secret surprises,” say organizers — as well as a live DJ, four food trucks, vendors, cornhole, and more.

VIP tickets include early access and entry to both VIP and general sessions.

Be thunderstruck by Blue Violin in Lewiston

LEWISTON — Blue Violin, a transformative conservatory-trained virtuoso who has sold out venues from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall, will be at the Franco Center on Saturday, June 27, to perform “Thunderstruck: A Classic Rock Tribute with Blue Violin.”

“Experience classic rock like you’ve never heard it before. Blue Violin transforms iconic anthems into cinematic, high-energy performances using live looping, powerful violin solos, and immersive soundscapes,” say organizers.

Having appeared with musicians including John Mayer, Paul McCartney, Gloria Estefan, Paul Simon, and Jennifer Holliday, Blue Violin has been called “the best rock and roll violinist of a generation” and “electrifying,” according to organizers.

Celebrate Rangeley, radio and ‘old-fashioned’ talent

RANGELEY — The Rangeley Friends of the Arts will host “WRGY Presents: A Mountain Home Companion” on Saturday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m. for an evening of storytelling, theatrical performances, live music and more.

The fundraiser for community radio station WRGY will offer stories, theater, musical performances and “the best of Rangeley’s old-fashioned artistic talent” all broadcast live, say organizers.

Spend an evening with Patton Oswalt in Gardiner

GARDINER — Comedian, actor, writer and director Patton Oswalt will appear at Johnson Hall Opera House on Saturday, June 27, at 7:30 p.m.

The Emmy-winning writer, Grammy-winning comedian, and Critics Choice Award-nominated actor has worked with Tom Hanks, Ben Stiller, Matt Damon, Seth Rogan and many others in a career that includes well-known movie and TV roles, voice acting and award-winning comedy albums.

“An evening with renowned comedian Patton Oswalt” will take place on Reehl Stage. Tickets are $75.

Enjoy a free downtown concert in Auburn

AUBURN — The Auburn Community Concert Band has kicked off its 45th Summer Concert Series, which occurs every Wednesday 7-8:15 p.m. at Festival Plaza off Main Street.

Free and weather permitting, the concerts will run through Aug. 19. The band of 55 volunteer musicians perform popular hit songs from the ’60s through the present, appealing to audiences of all ages.

There is free parking in the municipal garage nearby, portable facilities, and Auburn’s Age Friendly group will be selling a variety of treats from the concession stand during every performance. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

In case of inclement weather, that evening’s concert will be canceled, and an announcement will be posted by 5 p.m. on the band’s website at www.auburncommunityband.com.

Take in some ragtime, burlesque and more in South Paris

SOUTH PARIS — The Celebration Barn Theater will present “Berlin, 1933” on Saturday, June 27, featuring an adults-only evening of music, comedy, circus, and burlesque.

“In times of political turmoil, artists are always among the first to make their voices heard. This special evening evokes one of history’s darkest hours not to indulge in despair but to celebrate the power we all have to resist, rise up, and reclaim the moment,” say organizers.

Among the performers will be Rebellion & the Resist Dancers, DJ Doomscrolling, Aunt-Tifa, the Cheeto Man, and more.

The show will run 7:30-10:15 p.m. Tickets are $5-$30: “Most tix are pay-what-you-can starting at $5. If able, we ask for $20,” say organizers. No one under 18 will be permitted entry, according to organizers.

Walk the Walk, rock the art in Lewiston

LEWISTON — The June Art Walk L/A will take place on Friday, June 26, from 5-8 p.m. downtown, centered around Lisbon Street’s Dufresne Plaza.

The monthly Art Walk event fosters community and celebrates the vitality of Lewiston/Auburn by turning the downtown into an arts district on the final Friday of each summer month, from May to September.

Thirty-plus businesses and empty storefronts are converted into galleries, creative exhibitions, and special performance spaces, adding extra life and creativity to the area as attendees enjoy local dining and other cultural attractions.

Take a puppet and poem workshop in Auburn

AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library will host a Puppets and Poems Workshop over the next five weeks starting Wednesday, June 24.

For teens and adults, the free workshops will use recycled and found materials to help participants bring to life puppet characters of their own design, then write unique poems based on their puppets.

Workshops will be led by Maine College of Art & Design student Quinn J. Cotnoir. The workshops honor the book “Ashley Bryan’s Puppets” by Ashley Bryan, the Coretta Scott King Award-winning author, artist, illustrator and Maine resident. 

The workshops will run from 4-5:30 p.m. each Wednesday.

Listen to music in the park in Jay

JAY — The Jay Recreation Committee and the Androscoggin Land Trust will host Music in the Park on Monday, June 29, at 6 p.m. at French Falls Park. The event was originally set for June 18, but was rained out.

Organizers plan three concerts this summer. The June concert will feature the Autumn Addicts.

The concerts are free. There will be food trucks and vendors.

The park is at 28 French Falls Lane.

Go see the ‘Marvelous Wonderettes’ in Auburn

AUBURN — Community Little Theatre’s production of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” will finish its run this weekend, taking the audience on a musical trip down memory lane.

The production features four high school friends performing at their 1958 prom — and later, their 10-year reunion — set to the soundtrack of ’50s and ’60s hits like “Lollipop,” “It’s My Party,” and “Respect.” “This energetic, feel-good musical is a celebration of friendship, nostalgia, and girl-group harmony that will have you singing along all night,” say organizers.

The show runs Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27, 7:30-9:30 p.m., and Sunday, June 28, 2-4 p.m.
