Members of Maine School Administrative District 58’s board of directors voted unanimously to accept Kingfield’s proposal to withdraw from the district during an emergency board meeting Thursday, June 25.
Should the proposal move forward as passed, Kingfield would retain ownership of Kingfield Elementary School. Also, the district will guarantee acceptance of Mount Abram High School students from Kingfield and the town will receive $300,000 from MSAD 58’s undesignated fund balance and three school buses.
The district also includes Avon, Phillips and Strong.
The proposal will go to the state for review, where it will likely provide feedback. From there, the Kingfield school options committee will revise it and return it to the state for final approval from the commissioner of education. A final vote by Kingfield residents will take place in November.
Kingfield School Options Committee will meet Tuesday, June 30, to plan the next steps, including scheduling public forums.
