Chick-A-Dee of Lewiston, one of the area’s go-to family restaurants for almost 20 years, announced on social media Tuesday that 2026 will be its last in business. At least, at that location.

The landmark at 1472 Lisbon St. opened in 2007 and has been a staple of the community for family gatherings, meetings, and graduations for generations.

“After many wonderful years of serving this incredible community, our family has made the bittersweet decision to close the doors of The Chick-a-dee. While this chapter is coming to an end, the memories we’ve created will always be cherished,” the post on Facebook reads in part.

While the restaurant and bar will remain open through the end of the year, the post also alludes to something bigger in the works.

“This might be goodbye from 1472 Lisbon St. & The Chick-a-dee, but we promise there is more to come. We look forward to seeing all of you over the next few months and telling you about our BIG news & plans.”

The Chick-A-Dee’s namesake goes back more than 90 years to a similarly popular Chick-A-Dee restaurant on Route 4 in Turner from 1935 to 2012, many of those years under the Hird family.

The Lewiston location is also operated by members of the Hird family.
