AUBURN — A grease fire at China Wok last week forced the temporary closure of the eatery. It remained closed as of July 1.
The Auburn Fire Department said it was dispatched to the restaurant at 730 Center St. at 12:44 p.m. on June 22. Units arrived within minutes and found a fire in the kitchen that extended into the ductwork of the cooking ventilation system.
The fire was quickly put out with minimal damage to the building, the department said.
According to Auburn officials, the Department of Health and Human Services, which is the licensing agency for the state, is required to review the fire scene and work with the owner or operator to follow a process for reopening.
The cause was determined to be an accidental cooking fire and no one was injured.
The owners could not be reached for comment.
Work on the facade of China Wok and adjacent storefront, formerly JOANN Fabrics, is unrelated to the fire. It is a planned renovation for new tenants, according to the leasing company.
